ADSSC Board of Directors had a meeting on 2nd of February 2015, at STEP’s pumping station worksite in Al Wathba - Abu Dhabi. The meeting was headed by the Chairman of ADSSC, H.E Abdullah Ali Musleh Al Ahbabi, and attended by the board members; Mr. Khalifa Salim Al Mansouri, Mr. Hadher Abdullah Al Muhairi, Mr. Abdullah Saeed Sultan Al Shamsi, Dr. Shaikhah Salim Obaid Al Dhaheri, and Mr. Eisa Mubarak Ali Al Mazroui, beside to ADSSC Divisions Managers.
The meeting targeted the Divisions of the Strategy & Communication, the Awareness & Mass Communication Unit, and the major achievements of ADSSC in 2014. It also included the development plans of the current year and the integrated strategy to achieve the company’s goals. The integrated strategy focused on developing business, and customer services to be in align with Abu Dhabi plan 2030.
The board members attended the presentation by Mr. Ahmed Saleh Al Neyadi the Business Support Division Director, on the results of ADSSC “Al Thuraya Excellence Award”, and the efforts paid to make the first circle a success. ADSSC planned Al Thuraya Award to be in conform with Abu Dhabi Award for Excellence in Government Performance.
The vision behind ADSSC’s internal award rises from the company’s vision to be at international level, having sophisticated work environment, and achieving vital projects, in align with Abu Dhabi plan 2030 to create a dynamic, open economy and to make Abu Dhabi Government one of the best five governments at the world level. Beside to make ADSSC well acknowledged among regulators and investors as one of the best companies in providing wastewater services by 2020. Furthermore to achieving excellence in providing best quality and secured wastewater services to the Emirate of Abu Dhabi.
The meeting continued to include a presentation by Mrs. Al Yazia Al Kaabi, the Head of Awareness and Mass Communication Unit, on ADSSC activities and achievements 2014-2015, on top of it is the honoring by H.H Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces for the company’s contribution in “Absher” initiative. And the visit of H.H Sheikh Hazza bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the National Security Advisor, and Vice-Chairman of Abu Dhabi Executive Council to the Strategic Tunnel STEP in Abu Dhabi. In addition to achieving “Best Governmental Entity in Commitment to Procedures of Solving Cases at CityGuard”, and conducting development projects in Western Region.
Followed by Eng. Shahzad Orakzai presentation, the Programme Management Department Manager; on work progress of the strategic tunnel enhancement programme STEP, including current state of the project and the related projects, challenges, and solutions.
Later on, the board members toured STEP pumping station which is the biggest of its kind in the world, as construction reached 50% and will be completed by the end of 2015.
On his Behalf, H.E Abdullah Ali Musleh Al Ahbabi, the Chairman of ADSSC expressed his appreciation for the board visit to STEP, which reflects their commitment to contribute in development projects of the different government departments, and improving services level.
H.E Al Ahbabi clarified that STEP is part of ADSSC five years strategic plan in align with Abu Dhabi’s overall policy that assimilates our wise leadership vision of H.H Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan - may God preserve him -, to create safe and secure communities and developments that enhance quality of life and reflect the Emirate’s unique identity.
He also added that ADSSC achievements were a result of the wise leadership, support, and the instructions of H.H Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, that helped us fulfill ADSSC objectives and in some areas exceed our own expectations. Further to the approval of His Highness Sheikh Hazza bin Zayed Al Nahyan, to define strategies, improve services, and to implement new concepts. Our projects are delivered to the best international standards using cutting edge technologies to provide a developed infrastructure that attracts investments and projects.
Indicating that STEP comprises new infrastructure that include 41km of deep sewer tunnel up to 5.5 meters in internal diameter, 43km of link sewers, and a new pumping station with peak pumping capacity of approximately of 1.7million cubic metres a day, the tunnel starts at approximately 27 meters to reach 100 meter below the ground surface.
This milestone project is expected to provide an economic solution, as it deals with the collection, treatment and disposal of wastewater of Abu Dhabi Island, mainland, and surrounding islands. The estimated endurance of the strategic tunnel is 80 years without the need for regular maintenance.
