SWS Announces Breaking Regional Record by Hitting 80% Utilisation of Recycled Water in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi

Abu Dhabi Sustainable Water Solutions Company (SWS), a leading provider of sustainable water solutions, announced a regional first of hitting 80% utilisation of recycled water in the emirate of Abu Dhabi for the month of August. The announcement comes as SWS showcases its latest innovations at the 25th Water, Energy, Technology and Environment Exhibition (WETEX).

This accomplishment guarantees a continuous supply of clean and sustainable water and helps preserve water resources throughout the emirate of Abu Dhabi. SWS’ dedication to continue supplying high-quality recycled water demonstrates the company’s contribution to progressing the UAE’s Water Security Strategy 2036.

As a result of extensive water testing, including around 60,000 lab tests annually covering 35 parameters, SWS’ high-quality recycled water can be utilised for agriculture, cooling, and industrial applications. SWS’ recycled water is distributed to over 20 landmarks across the emirate of Abu Dhabi, including Saadiyat Island, Emirates Palace and the Al Wathba Wetland Reserve. As SWS continues its mission to create and implement sustainable water solutions and corporate social responsibility to enable the circular economy, it looks ahead to expanding its environmental stewardship across the emirate of Abu Dhabi and globally.

Eng. Ahmed Al Shamsi, MD, and CEO of SWS Holding, said, "The announcement today at WETEX of SWS reaching the utilisation of 80% of recycled water across the emirate of Abu Dhabi for the month of August is a significant step towards preserving depleting freshwater resources and supporting the UN Sustainability Development Goals. It is a testament to our operational excellence, safety, customer-centricity and digital transformation as enablers for urban water resilience and promoting biodiversity. It also reaffirms SWS’ dedication to environmental stewardship and our commitment to providing a more sustainable alternative to desalinated water. With COP28 just weeks away, this announcement also reinforces SWS’ commitment to supporting the conference’s Water Week agenda.”

SWS has outlined its ambition to progress an upward trend in utilisation with an overall goal of reaching 100%. By working closely with partners at Abu Dhabi and Al Ain Distribution Companies, this goal will continue to support the reduction of national emissions, which have been reduced by 693,055 tCO2/year, further contributing to UN Sustainability Development Goals 6, 11, 12 and 13. SWS will work closely together with its strategic partners and share expertise to progress the UAE’s 2050 Net Zero strategy.
