Managing Director & Chief Executive Officer
Eng. Ahmad Al Shamsi, a distinguished leader with over 20 years of experience, serves as the Managing Director and CEO of SWS Holding, and the Abu Dhabi Sustainable Water Solutions Company, a pioneer in providing sustainable solutions for water security and circularity.
Under his guidance, the company, formerly known as Abu Dhabi Sewerage Services Company (ADSSC), underwent a repositioning with the aim to revolutionize the global water industry by empowering communities with impactful and sustainable water solutions.
Eng. Al Shamsi has held influential roles in organizations such as ADNOC Distribution and Borouge, contributing significantly to their success. He is the Chairman of UPP and an Executive Committee Member of the World Utilities Congress. He has also served on the board of Ruwais Fertilizer Industries and the Gulf Petrochemicals and Chemicals Association’s Supply Chain Committee.
Eng. Al Shamsi holds a Master’s degree in Quality Management from the University of Wollongong, a Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering from the University of Tulsa, and a Leadership Excellence certificate from the International Institute for Management Development (IMD).
Chief Business Development Officer
Eng. Abdulwahab Sharif is the Chief Business Development Officer at Abu Dhabi Sustainable Water Solutions (SWS), where he concurrently serves as the Chairman of Al Etihad Biwater Waste Water Company PJSC and as a Director on the board of Al Wathba Veolia Besix Waste Water-PJSC. In his capacity at SWS, he leads strategic business development initiatives and spearheads the company's expansion efforts on both domestic and international fronts.
At SWS, Eng. Abdulwahab Sharif has held key roles, beginning as the Chief Commercial Officer. In this capacity, he oversaw Customer Service & Experience, Marketing & Communication, Sustainability, and Business Operations. During his tenure, Eng. Sharif spearheaded the rebranding initiative, successfully transitioning the company to the new SWS brand, thereby strengthening its market position.
Eng. Sharif has had a distinguished career, holding significant positions at Borouge (ADNOC), a global petrochemical company. Notably, he served as Vice President of Packaging for the Middle East, Africa, and Europe, where he managed extensive sales, marketing, and business development efforts across these regions. Prior to this, he spent six years in Singapore, directing crucial operations in sales, marketing, and supply chain management. His expertise led him to the role of Vice President of Southeast Asia and Australasia, driving Borouge's strategic growth initiatives and fostering opportunities throughout the value chain.
Earlier, as Vice President of Regional Supply Chain for Asia South, Eng. Sharif led transformative projects across 14 countries, boosting operational efficiencies and fostering a culture of excellence. His leadership was pivotal in the successful execution of Borouge 4, a multi-billion-dollar project aimed at expanding global petrochemical production capacity significantly.
Beyond his corporate achievements, Eng. Sharif represented Borouge in the UAE Singapore Business Council (UAESBC), promoting bilateral trade and industry under the Singapore-UAE Comprehensive Partnership (SUCP). His role was critical during significant diplomatic events, including the official visit of HH Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE, in February 2019.
Eng. Abdulwahab Sharif holds a Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering from the Petroleum Institute, Abu Dhabi, UAE. His extensive experience, diverse skills, and strategic vision continue to drive sustainable growth and development across global industries.
Chief Operating Officer
Dr. Nader Assad Bin Taher is the Chief Operating Officer. He specializes in operational aspects of SWS’s assets including Planning & Forecasting activities, Design and Execution of CAPEX projects, and Operation & Maintenance of infrastructure assets.
Dr. Nader has more than 22 years dedicated to wastewater infrastructure and construction sectors. Previously, he was assigned as Director of Asset Management Division. Before joining SWS, He held various roles at Sewerage Directorate at Abu Dhabi Municipality and National Petroleum Construction Company.
He serves as a Board Member for Al Wathba Veolia Besix Waste Water Co. and Al Etihad Biwater Waste Water Co. and is a member of the Audit Committee of Al Ain Municipality. In addition, he is also a member of several strategic committees within SWS.
He holds a Doctor of Business Administration degree from Abu Dhabi University, two Master’s Degrees in Urban and Regional Planning from Paris-Sorbonne Abu Dhabi and Quality Management from the University of Wollongong, and a Higher Diploma in Civil Engineering from Higher Colleges of Technology in UAE.
Chief Human Capital Officer
Mr. Al Ameri has accumulated more than two decades of professional experience in various leadership roles including sales, marketing, human resources, commercial operations, development, business development, innovation, and initiatives management.
Performance-driven professional, with over two decades of professional experience in different Management positions including Human Resources, Sales, and Commercial Operations.
With strong experience in architecting strategic development programs, which attract and retain talents, as well as develop existing capabilities. Proving ability to work with senior leadership to integrate Human Resources functions into the business operation strategies and effectively balance the employee needs with the mission and vision of the organization.
Before joining SWS, he was Chief Human Resources Officer for New York University in Abu Dhabi. In this capacity, he led the NYUAD HR transformation, supported the NYUAD academic mission by creating many structural intakes for faculty and researchers, as well as developing Emiratisation programs. In his last role at Etihad Airways as Head of HR, he managed to achieve cost optimizations and improve performance for the Outstation network, International Alliances, Network & Planning, and Revenue Management.
He has over 21 years of experience in different management positions, including Human Resources, Culture & Employee Engagement, and Sales & Commercial Operations in multiple sectors. During his previous experience, he was able to achieve significant results in Recruitment Programs developing competencies and advantages from innovation and technology. In addition, he achieved the highest rates of Emiratization during his tenure in Human Resources Management at New York University Abu Dhabi, despite the COVID-19 pandemic.
Mr. Al Ameri has led many work teams in human resources and commercial operation within and outside of the country, he has achieved many objectives in the field of recruitment and development of engineers and pilots programs and built teams internationally in Australia and the Indian subcontinent in addition to Europe and America.
General Counsel & Board Secretary
Reporting to the MD and CEO and Secretary of the Board, he oversees all legal, compliance and regulatory matters within the organisation. Mr Benabid has over 18 years of industry experience.
Mr Benabid has held management and Board Member roles within subsidiaries of multinational companies, including Veolia and ArcelorMittal.
Hamza's progressive and successful career spans Europe, the Middle East, and Africa, with close interaction with C-level representatives of private and public institutions.
Audit Executive Director
Mr. Sultan Khouri manages the Internal Audit function, reporting to the Audit, Risk & Compliance Committee of the ENEC Board of Directors. His role is to provide independent, objective assurance and advisory activities to senior management and the Board of Directors, evaluating and recommending improvements to the effectiveness of activities including risk management, internal control, and governance processes as well as the Anti-Fraud Program.
He has over 25 years of professional experience in various roles including Finance, Enterprise Risk Management Compliance, and Internal Audit. Before joining SWS, he was the Enterprise Internal Audit Executive Director at Emirates Nuclear Energy Corporation (ENEC). He began his career with Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC).
In addition to his responsibilities at SWS, Mr. Khouri serves on several Board and Board Committees for ADQ and the Government of Abu Dhabi’s entities. He is also the Secretary of the SWS’s Audit & Risk Committee.
He holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration from UAE University and an Executive Master’s in Business Administration & Project Management from AUS.
Business Resilience Director
His goal is to lead SWS to become a fully resilient company, excel in all four departments, and foster a culture of collaboration, positive change, and recognition that will contribute to adapting to any challenge and ensuring the sustainable growth of the company.
Mohamed has exceptional experience in leading change, an analytical and strategic mindset, and a deep understanding of design/engineering principles. He previously held leadership roles, including Vice President of Airport Planning at Abu Dhabi Airport, where he led the planning and execution of 48 projects. Mohamed was also responsible for the quality, business continuity, and risk for transportation and manufacturing of nuclear fuels as Head of Nuclear Fuel Support and Head of Nuclear Fuel Quality Surveillance at Emirates Nuclear Energy Corporation (ENEC). His previous roles with ENEC and ADNOC Gas Processing have equipped him with a wealth of knowledge in business continuity, quality management, and risk management.
Mohamed holds an MSc in Nuclear Science and Technology from the University of Manchester and Nuclear Energy, Paris Sud 11 University, as well as a BSc in Electrical Engineering (Power) and Minor Mathematics from Saint Louis University.
Finance Director
Mr. Philippe Da Costa is the Finance Director. In his current role, he oversees the finance and procurement function, as well as project finance activities.
Before joining SWS, Mr. Da Costa held finance department roles in several companies in the telecommunications, water, and environmental services sectors, notably within Veolia for eight years. He has served in strategic and finance leadership roles across various geographies, including Africa, Europe, Latin America, and the Middle East.
Throughout his career, Mr. Da Costa has successfully restructured finance and procurement departments, led the project financing for desalination plants and water and wastewater concessions, and led an Initial Public Offering (IPO) for a water desalination project developed by Veolia.
