TAQA Water Solutions is committed to sustainable development in Abu Dhabi’s sewage sector through strategic projects like the Strategic Tunnel Enhancement Program (STEP). This initiative is a cornerstone of the Abu Dhabi government's pipeline infrastructure efforts, designed to meet future demands for flow and distribution across the Emirate through collaboration with local partners.
As part of our 5-year strategy, aligned with Abu Dhabi’s 2030 plan, STEP features:
• A 41-kilometre deep sewer tunnel (the “spine”)
• 45 kilometres of link sewers (the “ribs”)
• A main pumping station to enhance efficiency, eliminating the need for 35 existing pumping stations as of 2021.
The system channels wastewater by gravity to treatment facilities, with treated effluent used for irrigation. STEP provides a sustainable, effective solution for Abu Dhabi’s long-term wastewater management needs.
